Manchester United hand teenage midfielder first-team training opportunity after award nomination

Elyh Harrison trained with the Manchester United first-team on Wednesday after being recalled from his loan spell with Chester City, while there was also an opportunity to impress for midfielder Jack Moorhouse.

Harrison, 18, is set to get more exposure to senior training between now and the end of the season, while also playing games for the academy after impressing in his loan at National League North outfit Chester, and he trained alongside Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.

Defenders Godwill Kukonki, 16, and Tyler Fredricson, 19, were also part of the first-team training group, with Ruben Amorim continuing to get his ideas across during another midweek free of fixtures. Kukonki has made the bench against Arsenal and Newcastle under the club's new head coach and is highly-rated at Carrington, while Fredricson has trained with the first-team previously and captained the Under-21s in Premier League 2 earlier this season.

There was also a chance in first-team training for Moorhouse, who has been given sporadic opportunities to impress Amorim and his coaching staff after finding his form this season at academy level. The midfielder was nominated for the Premier League 2 player of the month award for December earlier this week.

Moorhouse impressed in the National League Cup win at Altrincham in November, catching the eye with his driving runs from midfield, and was excellent in the last Premier League 2 fixture of 2024, scoring twice in the 5-1 win against Southampton.

His form has earned him a chance to impress at senior level and he has handed some first-team sessions at Carrington as part of his development.
