Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana sends Erik ten Hag message

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana suggested the chance to reunite with Erik ten Hag was a big factor in his move from Inter Milan.

On Thursday, the Reds announced they had purchased the Cameroonian shot stopper from the Serie A giants for a fee that could rise to £43.8m. Onana is no stranger to playing under the current United boss after spending five years with him at Ajax.

During this time, the pair won the Eredivisie on three occasions and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. It was this success which fuelled Onana's desire to move to Old Trafford.

Onana told club media: "He [Ten Hag] had a big impact [on my career] because we have achieved a lot of big things together. We reached the semi-finals of the Champions League with Ajax and it was not something easy doing it with a small club like Ajax, it is something you do every 20 or 25 years.

"We have a great relationship, he is a top coach for me he is one of the best in the world and it is not a bad thing. Now it is time to demonstrate [our talent], it is not going to be easy but I am sure in the team we have the spirit and we are going to fight for it and I hope we are going to be successful here."

After keeping eight clean sheets in last season's Champions League, the highest total by any 'keeper, Onana is widely considered to be one of the best in the world in his position. The 27-year-old explained he feels he now belongs in the conversation.
