Manchester United get transfer budget boost from Tahith Chong sale

Manchester United are set to bank £1million from Tahith Chong's transfer to Luton Town.

Premier League newcomers Luton have bought Chong, 23, from Birmingham City in a £4m deal and United are entitled to 25% of the fee.

United inserted a sell-on clause into Chong's contract when he made his loan move to Birmingham permanent last year in a £1.45m move.

Although sources say It takes time for the funds to filter through into the accounts, United have banked around £2.45m from Chong's two transfers.

United signed Chong from the Feyenoord academy in 2016 and the Dutchman played 16 times for the club.

Ethan Laird left United for Birmingham in a £750,000 move earlier this month and Zidane Iqbal was sold to FC Utrecht for €1m.

More senior sales are anticipated before the transfer window closes on September 1. Dean Henderson is likely to be sold to Nottingham Forest once a deal is finalised for Andre Onana and Everton are interested in Anthony Elanga.

Fulham have keen on Fred while Eric Bailly, Alex Telles and Brandon Williams are all free to leave.

United are prepared to sell any one of Harry Maguire, Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek if they receive an acceptable offer.

Facundo Pellistri has been pencilled in for another season-long loan while Ten Hag is yet to decide on whether to retain Amad after he returned from a productive season on loan with Sunderland.
