Manchester United 'frontrunners' to sign Harry Kane and other transfer rumours

Manchester United are said to be in pole position to sign Harry Kane this summer, according to reports.

The Tottenham striker was fiercely linked with a move away from the capital in the summer as Manchester City registered keen interest in the forward, only for Daniel Levy to veto a move.

But as a result of their failed pursuit, the Reds have now apparently swooped in on the prolific forward ahead of a busy summer.

German outlet BILD, via Express, says that Pep Guardiola has diverted his attention away from the Englishman as he looks to tie down in-demand Norwegian forward Erling Haaland.

They report that this leaves United as the most likely destination for Kane should he leave Antonio Conte's side in the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino is on the list of managerial targets to permanently succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the end of the season and it has been said previously that the 28-year-old would be open to a reunion with the former Spurs boss, who was relieved of his duties in 2019.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United director, Amanda Staveley, has discussed the Magpies' January interest in Jesse Lingard.

The United attacker was close to a move away from Old Trafford in the most recent transfer window as he eyed a switch in search of first-team minutes.

Eddie Howe's side registered their intent but saw a move blocked by the Reds as the market edged towards closure.

Speaking to The Athletic, Staveley said: "Coming through all that showed us we can do it, that we can stick to our plan and if we get criticised on the last day for ‘oh, you’re going after Jesse [Lingard]’, well, Jesse wanted to come to us.

"We did everything. We never stopped. From the start to the finish, we did not stop working."
