Manchester United fans to be hit with tough new restrictions and 'red routes' around Old Trafford

Tough new restrictions are being installed to tackle Manchester United fans who block residents driveways and park anti-socially on match days around Old Trafford. Last year, a special task force was set up by Trafford Council to investigate the issue with 438 responses.

They will be installed along the A56 corridor and associated side roads from Junction 7 of the M60 to the Manchester City Council boundary. Work is expected to start on site to install red lines and traffic signs before the end of August 2024.

The new restrictions are designed to be more stringent than the current arrangements to deter inappropriate stopping on the road, verges and footways. This is a major ongoing issue, especially on match days, causing inconvenience and compromising safety for residents of the area, the council says.

The scheme is fully funded by Transport for Greater Manchester, and is being implemented by the One Trafford Partnership, a partnership between Trafford Council and Amey, following a
