Manchester United fans send inevitable Konrad Laimer message after Ralf Rangnick job news

Manchester United fans are hopeful that Ralf Rangnick's appointment as Austria national team manager could fuel a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer.

On Friday, the 63-year-old was confirmed as the next head coach of the international side, tasked with ending their wait for World Cup qualification after Franco Foda stepped down from the role at the end of March. Rangnick is set to take up a consultancy role at Old Trafford for the next two years, a job that is unchanged by the Austria news.

"I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United," Rangnick said. "I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force again."

Reports from Germany earlier this month suggested that United are among the list of clubs interested in Laimer. However, they may face competition from Bundesliga duo Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

With Rangnick set to take charge of the Austrian national side upon the conclusion of this season, he has confirmed his hopes of maintaining his role as a consultant — and fans clearly feel it could be an opportunity to land the midfielder. Here's how they reacted on Twitter:

The Austrian midfielder has a year remaining on his current deal with Die Roten Bullen and could earn his first taste of silverware with the Bundesliga side. They are 90 minutes, at least, away from the Europa League final after earning a 1-0 first-leg lead over Rangers.
