Manchester United fans put Liverpool and Man City to shame with Youth Cup final attendance

More than 67,000 Manchester United fans on Wednesday descended on Old Trafford as the club’s Under-18s defeated Nottingham Forest 3-1 in the FA Youth Cup final.

The turnout comfortably broke the record for the highest-attended game in the competition's history, which previously stood at 38,137. The final was also the first in front of a crowd since 2019.

Aston Villa beat Liverpool in last year’s final after Manchester City beat Chelsea the year prior, both being played behind closed doors amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, Liverpool beat City on penalties in front of supporters.

Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest Youth Cup final highlights as Garnacho scores winner

Just under 5,000 supporters attended the final that day, just a fraction of the amount that graced Old Trafford on Wednesday. Forest alone brought 5,700 to the game. Two goals from Alejandro Garnacho and an opener from captain Rhys Bennett saw United to the win.

It’s the 11th time they have won the competition, the most of any club. The victory came just hours after Garnacho was named United’s Under-18s player of the year.
