Manchester United fans hijack David de Gea post to make same point about Southampton referee

Some Manchester United supporters were unhappy with referee Anthony Taylor for his performance during the 0-0 draw against Southampton on Sunday afternoon and they continued to vent their frustration via David de Gea's latest Instagram post.

For the second time in this Premier League season, Casemiro was sent off as rock-bottom Saints grabbed a creditable point against their high-flying opponents. However, on another occasion, United might have been awarded one - if not two - penalties through VAR at Old Trafford.

It was following a second check with the much-maligned replay system that Casemiro received the red card that will now see him miss the next four domestic games, but Taylor and VAR chose not to refer when Armel Bella-Kotchap appeared to handle inside the area.

De Gea kept his powder dry in a post-match message to supporters. However, when responding to his short Instagram post, match-goers and those watching the Southampton draw from afar made their verdict on the referee and VAR abundantly clear.

Addressing his followers, long-serving number one De Gea said: "The team wanted more, but sometimes you have to take these games and move on. We battled together."

@cocacolasuper8 posted: "But sometimes Anthony Taylor has to referee the game."

@johnbowe22 added: "Always a tough game when it's 12 vs 10."

@_unitedarea said: "Not the team's fault. We got robbed."

@scsean posted: "Referee cost us that game, nothing on the players in terms of performance."

@thichocopie added: "If I speak, I'm in trouble..."
