Manchester United fans hijack David de Gea's comments to Bruno Fernandes with common message

Manchester United fans have hijacked David de Gea's playful comment to Bruno Fernandes with messages of support.

The Spaniard has left United after 12 years with the club. United opted against renewing De Gea's contract after months of negotiations and talks.

It looked at one stage like De Gea would continue his journey at Old Trafford but reservations grew about his suitability to meet Erik ten Hag's demands. United fans didn't get the chance to say goodbye to the long-serving goalkeeper and have taken to social media to send their message to him.

After Fernandes posted a picture on Instagram of him leaving for United's US tour, De Gea commented 'Guaperas!'. That roughly translates as 'gorgeous' or 'heart-throb', with De Gea clearly being lighthearted with his former team-mate.

However, the response to De Gea's comment received over 170 messages from United fans with one common theme. 'Legend forever' some wrote whilst others said 'good luck and thank you'.

Whilst most United fans would have admitted it was the right time to move on, their appreciation for De Gea has not waned. The Spaniard is yet to decide on his next move having been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League and a return to Spain.

United have his replacement in the building after completing a deal for Andre Onana. The former Inter Milan and Ajax goalkeeper will be stepping into his shoes but won't replace De Gea by wearing the number one shirt.
