Manchester United fan protest has just sent a reminder to Sir Jim Ratcliffe amid takeover race

A number of Manchester United supporters who staged a protest outside of the club’s megastore on Tuesday, the day the new home kit was released, earned a mini-win when the shop closed its doors for 30 minutes.

It may not do much to damage the Glazers’ finances but the 100 or so participants showed that their message remains loud and clear amid the takeover process. Tuesday was also the day United released their latest finance reports.

Documents showed record revenues of up to £640m and a new high regarding match-day attendance with 2.4 million tickets sold in the 2022/23 season. There was no mention at all of the takeover.

The figures account for three months up to March 31 but it’s unlikely that the next quarter results - up to June 30 - will mention it either. It only adds to the lack of clarity about the process.

The board has not provided an official update since November’s sale announcement and the only certainty is that Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are the frontrunners in the race. The fact a decision has not yet been made means that the finalisation of a changeover may run into next season.

Speculation has driven United’s share price rocketing and plummeting, depending on the rumour. There is little insight into which way the Glazers will lean, if they do decide to sell.

Sheikh Jassim wishes to wipe the entirety of the club’s debt which stands at £510.5m, Tuesday’s figures showed. He has also pledged to revamp facilities including Old Trafford, all of which makes for a very popular proposition among United fans who use social media, despite background concerns.

Meanwhile, Ratcliffe and INEOS are only seeking a majority stake. The Glazers
