Manchester United duo warned as Erik ten Hag looks to complete summer transfer window

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes Harry Maguire should leave Old Trafford this summer but has warned Scott McTominay he may not be allowed to depart.

MEN Sport reported last week a bid had been accepted by United from West Ham for their former captain. The bid was understood to be in the region of £30m.

However, on Tuesday it became clear a deal on personal terms between the Iron and Maguire could not be reached. At the weekend, United did bid farewell to Fred after he left for Fenerbahce.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Yorke believes the transfer agreement for the Brazilian could block any exit for McTominay this summer. "It's easy for me to say to get rid of this player and that one," he explained.

"Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay's departures have been well documented and heavily linked to other clubs recently. If Man United can get some money for these players, then I think they should move on.

"With McTominay, if Casemiro was to get injured, we don't have anyone else to replace him with now Fred is gone, so I can imagine Man United keeping hold of McTominay for a while longer. With Maguire, he's gone from being the number one centre-back and club captain to not even replacing Lisandro Martinez when he came off with an injury against Wolves.

The transfer window is in full swing and United have got their hands on three players well in advance of the September 1 deadline, with Rasmus Hojlund joining Mason Mount and Andre Onana at Old Trafford.
