Manchester United did a lot right vs Liverpool but it won’t be enough vs West Ham
Manchester United's performance at Liverpool might not have been pretty but it was effective and necessary.
The Reds visited Anfield on the back of a humbling at home to Bournemouth and a Champions League exit, and with Jurgen Klopp's men boasting a perfect home record of 10 wins from 10, not many expected United to pick up a positive result.
But Erik ten Hag's side nullified the attacking ambitions of the hosts and departed Merseyside with a well-earned point having arguably had the game's best chance. The result restored a bit of faith in this United squad ahead of a crucial Christmas period.

The Reds will hope to build on their point when they visit West Ham on Saturday lunchtime. But for all the positives United can take from the Liverpool contest, it won't be enough against David Moyes' men.
The Hammers were thrashed 5-1 at Anfield in the Carabao Cup in midweek and will be seeking a response. Ex-Reds boss Moyes is likely to set up to frustrate and counter and United will need to make the running.
The solid and stodgy showing at Liverpool will need to be transformed into a front-foot display built on their Anfield resilience. There will be more expectation on United to take the game to the home side and play with an attacking intent.
West Ham are comfortable playing on the break, as they did so well against Wolves in their last home match. The Hammers are happy to go direct and will allow United possession.
