Manchester United defender Jonny Evans names Man City icon as one of his toughest opponents

Manchester United centre-back Jonny Evans has named Manchester City hero Sergio Aguero as one of the toughest opponents that he has ever come up against.

Aguero will go down in history as one of City's greatest players of all-time, enjoying a success-filled decade at the club between 2011 and 2021. He won 15 major trophies during his time at the Etihad Stadium, including five Premier League titles, plundering 260 goals.

That tally has cemented his position as the club's all-time leading goalscorer, 83 goals clear of second-placed Eric Brook. He also scored the goal that secured the club its first-ever Premier League title in dramatic fashion in 2012, pipping rivals United to the crown.

Aguero, who was forced to retire in December 2021 due to a heart condition, will also be remembered fondly by general football supporters in England. He was one of the very best strikers in the world during his prime, scoring 184 times in the Premier League alone.

With such star-studded records next to his name, it is little wonder that Evans, who faced the Argentine nine times during the latter's playing career, has named him as one of the toughest players he has ever faced.

Evans, participating in a supporters' Q&A on United's club website, said: "The three most difficult? "That's a tricky one.

"I would probably say I've played against some good strikers over the years and Luis Suarez would have been up there when he was at Liverpool. In the Brendan Rodgers team, when they had him and [Daniel] Sturridge up front as well, they were very dangerous.
