Manchester United could solve two big problems in one go with £68m signing

Manchester United are still in need of reinforcements as we enter into the latter stages of the summer transfer window.

Two priorities have become increasingly clear for the Reds in their opening two matches. First is the need for midfield strengthening and secondly is the pressing desire to get the forward line firing once more.

Currently, the centre of the park is being overrun with United too attack heavy with the likes of Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes in the starting line-up. Meanwhile, the forwards are lacking confidence after being starved of creativity against Wolves before putting in a sloppy finishing display at Tottenham Hotspur.

Should they wish to kill two birds with one stone, United may wish to invest in PSG's Marco Verratti , who is being linked with a move to the North West. Having been on the Reds' radar in 2018, the club is now in a stronger position to attract the Italian to the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag is building a more attractive project than any manager since Sir Alex Ferguson and he has showcased his pulling power already. If the Dutchman needed convincing of Verratti's suitability for United he may only need to listen to Rio Ferdinand's analysis of the midfielder ahead of a Champions League tie against the Reds in 2019.
