Manchester United considering other striker targets amid Tottenham refusal to sell Harry Kane

Manchester United are operating under the assumption Tottenham will not sell Harry Kane in the summer.

United have not ended their interest in Kane but they are actively pursuing other options as Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has indicated Kane will not be sold.

If Kane, 29, is to engineer a move away from Spurs then he may have to agitate again, having effectively aired his intention to leave two years ago in an infamous interview with Gary Neville.

Kane is approaching the final year of his contract and Spurs face a season without European football if they end the Premier League season in eighth.

Tottenham are also still managerless two months on from the dismissal of Antonio Conte and they are expected to approach Celtic coach Ange Postecoglou.

United manager Erik ten Hag identified Kane as his preferred target but the Manchester Evening News revealed last month United are reluctant to "play games" with Levy, who is notorious for dragging out negotiations.

A source who has worked with Levy half-jokingly said United would have to "kill him" to sign Kane.

Kane and his brother and representative, Charlie, failed to unnerve Levy when he rejected a £100million offer from Manchester City in August 2021. Kane eventually confirmed he would stay at Spurs.

The England captain vowed he "wouldn't do anything to jeopardise the relationship I have with the fans" and Kane became Tottenham's record goalscorer earlier this season.

Spurs risk missing out on a substantial fee on Kane if they decide against selling him and he runs down his contract that expires next year.
