New Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou could give Manchester United Harry Kane boost

Any hopes Ange Postecoglou may have harboured of an easy first week at his new job will have been quickly quashed upon his arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

While his time at Celtic ended in triumph, dark clouds are looming over Spurs as they head into the summer transfer window. A damp squib of a season finished with the future of their star striker Harry Kane in jeopardy.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made it clear he sees Kane as his top transfer target and who can blame him. In a lacklustre excuse of a team, the England captain managed a whopping 32 goals.

It is clear he has what it takes to improve United's forward line but Ten Hag has hit an obstacle in his pursuit of the striker. MEN Sport understands chairman Daniel Levy is reluctant to sell Kane, despite his contract expiring in 2024, and the Reds are working under the presumption he will not be sold.

At this rate, the 29-year-old will be leaving Tottenham on a free which would be disastrous not only for Levy but also Postecoglou. Clearly, the Australian is in need of funds to rebuild the squad and a hefty fee from United for Kane would do just that.

The Reds will also be disappointed not to scoop their man this summer too with their forward line crying out for a proven talisman. However, all is not lost yet.

Postecoglou has been faced with a similar situation to this before. In the summer of 2021, his star striker at Celtic, Odsonne Edouard wanted to leave and there was a danger he would depart Glasgow on a free transfer.
