Manchester United confirm two new coaches and double exit

Manchester United have confirmed that Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy have been appointed assistant managers, signing two-year deals to mirror the length of Erik ten Hag's.

Hake joins from Go Ahead Eagles, where he has been head coach for the previous two years and guided them to a top-half finish in the Eredivisie last season, securing Europa League qualification via a play-off.

Van Nistelrooy is returning to United having spent a year as PSV Eindhoven head coach for the 2022/23 season. He scored 150 goals in 210 appearances as a player for the club between 2001 and 2006.

Ten Hag is happy to have his coaching staff settled, with Hake and Van Nistelrooy now granted visas to officially begin work. They had been at Carrington this week while they waited for the paperwork to go through.

"I am delighted that Rene and Ruud have agreed to join our project, adding a wealth of experience, knowledge and new energy to the staff," said Ten Hag.

"Now is a good time to refresh the coaching team as we look to build on the achievements of the past two years and push to the next level.”

Dan Ashworth, sporting director, said: “Together with Erik, we are working to strengthen all areas of our men’s first team operations, and refreshing the coaching staff is an important part of that.

"It’s a particular pleasure to welcome Ruud back to the club where he enjoyed so much success as a player, and I know that he and Rene will help reinforce the winning mentality and high standards we are aiming for."
