Manchester United complete Sergio Reguilon loan deal

Manchester United have completed the season-long loan signing of Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon.

United have inserted the option of a break clause to terminate the loan in January and are covering Reguilon's salary of around £120,000-a-week.

There is no option to buy Reguilon, who becomes the first Tottenham player to transfer to United since Dimitar Berbatov exactly 15 years ago on transfer deadline day.

United switched their attention to Reguilon after abandoning a move for Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella.

Cucurella played in Chelsea's League Cup second round win over AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday evening and United's insistence on a break clause meant he would not be able to be transferred to a third club in January.

The Manchester Evening News revealed United's interest in Reguilon on Saturday after the club drew up a shortlist of left-backs to offset injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Shaw is out for at least two months with a muscular injury while Malacia reported for pre-season with an injury is not due back until mid-September at the earliest.

United considered a move for Reguilon three years ago when he was at Sevilla but opted to sign Alex Telles from Porto instead. Telles was sold to Al-Nassr earlier this summer, having spent last season on loan at Sevilla.
