Manchester United can use final US tour friendly to find another goalscoring solution

This is game number six of United's pre-season and the fourth and final fixture of their US tour, although that does include the under-21s run-out against Wrexham in San Diego.

But we are at the point of pre-season when Erik ten Hag is going to want to start playing his strongest team, probably against Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas and in one of the friendlies next weekend, against Lens at Old Trafford or Athletic Bilbao in Dublin.

So this fixture might be the first time we get to see the side likely to start against Wolves on the opening weekend of the season, although there is an issue at striker.

It is midfield where things might come together. Bruno Fernandes played out wide the other day, but he could slot inside with Mason Mount this time and Casemiro playing deeper. That trio looks excellent on paper and they should get a chance to find some rhythm against the Bundesliga side.

There have been some bright moments for United in pre-season and some clear tactical steps forward for this side under Ten Hag, but their biggest issue remains scoring goals, just as it did last season.

They've scored six goals in six games in pre-season, firing a blank against Real Madrid and only scoring twice against Leeds and Arsenal. More worryingly, they have struggled to create chances.

That is something they will be desperate to improve on in the final two weeks of pre-season, but Ten Hag is doing so without a striker at the moment, with Rasmus Hojlund only set to arrive to play in one friendly.
