Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag makes Harry Kane admission amid Bayern transfer interest

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane has the credentials to end up as the best striker in Premier League history amid mounting speculation about a move to Bayern Munich.

The England captain, who celebrated his 30th birthday last week, has plundered a whopping 213 Premier League goals during his career so far, putting him second on the division's all-time goals list. He is currently just 47 shy of matching Alan Shearer's long-standing record of 260.

Many believe that Kane will eventually surpass Shearer's record-breaking tally, but that would be plunged into doubt if he sealed a move to Bayern before the end of this summer's transfer window. The German club are said to be stepping up their efforts to take the Spurs ace to the Bundesliga.

United were initially keen to sign Kane themselves this summer, after Ten Hag identified him as his leading striker target back in March. The Reds have since turned to alternative options and are now closing in on the signing of Atalanta ace Rasmus Hojlund.

Bayern, therefore, look as though they have a free run at attempting to extract Kane, who is out-of-contract at Spurs next summer, from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And Ten Hag, though he always refuses to go into detail about players who are not his own, has perhaps hinted that the England striker should stay in the Premier League, as doing that could secure his place in the history books.

"I don't talk about players in other clubs," Ten Hag said when asked about United's prior interest in Kane during a Q&A with journalists in the US. "I have to respect the club and I have to respect the player.
