Manchester United are taking their biggest transfer risk yet with Rasmus Hojlund

One of the reasons Manchester United are on the right path again under Erik ten Hag is the hit rate they have found in the transfer market under the Dutchman.

Last summer's £225million spending spree was a club record for one window but it looks like money well spent. Tyrell Malacia was a cheap backup left-back and is still young, while Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Antony all enhanced the team last season.

It looks to be a similar story so far this window. Andre Onana and Mason Mount have arrived for a combined fee of around £100million and they both look like ideal fits for Ten Hag's United. Onana is a step forward in the goalkeeping department and Mount looks like a prototype midfield player for Ten Hag.

But the success of this window will almost certainly be judged on the striker United sign, given that has been the most glaring weakness in the side for the past year. To that end, United are taking their biggest risk for their most valuable position.

Harry Kane is the obvious target this summer but United continue to insist they will not be competing for the England captain's signature. If he ends up moving to Bayern Munich it is going to look strange that United didn't at least try and make a play for him.

The figures involved are high for a player with a year left on his contract but then Kane is a guarantee of goals at this level. The 30 he scored in the Premier League for a poor Tottenham team last season was a remarkable achievement.

United would find it easier to sign him on a free transfer
