Manchester United and Man City learn Premier League summer transfer window dates

Clubs across the Premier League have discovered when they can get down to business during the summer transfer window after a meeting between stakeholders. Plans were revealed in London as proposals to introduce a debated five substitutions rule was also passed for next season.

Manchester United and Manchester City will be able to make signings from Friday, June 10 with the window staying open until Thursday, September 1 at 11pm BST. That runs in line with other major European divisions.

After finishing as runners-up to City last season, United issued a triple statement of intent by signing England player Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo - who completed his grand return to Old Trafford last summer after 12 years with Real Madrid and Juventus.

As for City, they broke the nine-figure barrier to sign £100million man Jack Grealish from Aston Villa. However, they were ultimately priced out of a follow-up move for England captain Harry Kane as he pledged his immediate future to Tottenham.

Speculation over Kane remains at fever pitch, while City are thought to be among the favourites to sign Borussia Dortmund goal machine Erling Haaland for next term. A release clause around the £64million mark is set to activate in his Dortmund contract.

United are ready to prioritise defensive midfield signings this summer and Manchester Evening News understands West Ham star Declan Rice is still target number one. As attentions turn to the upcoming window, United and City effectively have five months to put their plans in place.
