Manchester United and Ineos make key recruitment addition as another ex-Man City chief joins

Manchester United are bringing in former Tottenham and Manchester City executive Sam Erith as their interim performance director. Erith will start at the club on Monday and his temporary role will last until the end of the season.

The move further strengthens the football structure now in place under Ineos and Erith is the latest key hire as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to reshape the club following his £1.25bn investment.

Ineos have hired Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox into permanent positions since becoming the primary decision-makers at the club in February. Sporting director Ashworth is reporting to Berrada, with both beginning work in July. Wilcox, the club's technical director, is part of the team reporting to Ashworth.

That team will now be strengthened by Erith, who will join the football leadership team being formed by Ineos, while interim director of recruitment Christopher Vivell will remain in a temporary position at the club until February.

United expect Erith to play a crucial role in that structure as they strive to find ways to return the club to the pinnacle of the sport. He will be primarily tasked with developing an elite performance environment for Erik ten Hag and the first-team squad.

Erith was most recently senior vice president for player performance and science lead for Madison Square Garden Sports, based in New York, and was in that role for nearly two years.
