Future of warehouse ravaged by fire to be decided

The fate of a warehouse that was ravaged by a huge fire three years ago will be decided next week.

The industrial building on Holland Street in Denton was descended on by hundreds of firefighters back in February 2021 after an enormous blaze broke out. At the time, Greater Manchester Police declared a 'major incident', evacuating homes and telling locals to keep windows and doors closed due to the thick black smoke pluming from the scene.

Now, plans to fully rebuild the Self Storage Tameside unit scarred by fire damage have been tabled.

The planning panel at Tameside Council will meet at Tony Guardsman House in Droylsden next week to discuss the matter. The plans would see what is left of the building bulldozed and replace it with a five-storey warehouse containing storage units.

The storage company has a number of units across the borough, and this would boost the business which offers storage space for punters.

Planning papers read: “The site unfortunately suffered a very serious fire at the site in February 2021 which has resulted in the loss of one of his large warehouse storage buildings. This building was relatively new in appearance and construction terms in relation to the others on the site, and it has significantly impacted upon and affected the operation of his business.
