Premier League make big Michael Oliver decision after Manchester City vs Arsenal controversy

The Premier League have confirmed Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor will both return to refereeing duties this coming weekend.

Oliver was at the centre of several contentious decisions during Manchester City's 2-2 draw against Arsenal, with John Stones securing a 98th minute equaliser for Pep Guardiola's side. Arsenal were down to ten men after Leandro Trossard received two yellow cards in the first half.

His second booking was controversially given for kicking the ball away. City were also left frustrated when Oliver called Kyle Walker and his colleagues out of position just before Arsenal scored their first goal on a counter attack.

Ahead of this weekend, Oliver will take a step back from the main action and will serve as the video assistant referee for Chelsea's match against Brighton on Saturday. However, he will be back in the thick of it for Southampton's south coast derby against Bournemouth on Monday evening (September 30).

Arsenal meanwhile, will have Sam Barrott as the main official for the visit of Leicester City on Saturday. Sian Massey-Elliott and Paul Tierney will be on VAR and assistant VAR duties. Taylor on the other hand, is back on refereeing duties after being the fourth official during Brighton's 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.

He played a part in persuading referee Rob Jones to give Morgan Gibbs-White his second yellow card after a tackle on Joao Pedro despite the on-field decision initially suggesting that the Forest man had won the ball. Jones subsequently dismissed both teams' managers Nuno Espirito
