Manchester United aim for Mason Greenwood resolution by deadline day amid interest in forward

Manchester United have received enquiries from a number of clubs interested in signing Mason Greenwood after confirming on Monday that the forward would be leaving Old Trafford.

United concluded an internal investigation into the allegations made against Greenwood and revealed that they felt he did not commit the offences with which he was originally charged.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Greenwood on February 2.

But despite that finding United and Greenwood agreed it would be best to rebuild his career away from Old Trafford and the 21-year-old is now expected to leave either on loan or permanently.

United's statement that Greenwood would depart landed at 3pm on Monday and they have since had expressions of interest from several clubs overseas, both in Europe and further afield, keen to do a deal for the forward, who hasn't played since January 2022.

There is an acceptance that any club interested in securing Greenwood's signature might find the situation complicated, with the backlash against United's considerations to return the player to their first-team squad forcing a U-turn. That makes a move to another English club almost impossible.

But there is a desire to find a resolution before the transfer window shuts in most European leagues a week on Friday (September 1). Turkey and Saudi Arabia have both been mooted as potential destinations for Greenwood.
