Manchester city centre street taped off by police following discovery of 'suspicious bag'

A major cordon was put in place on a busy Manchester city centre street after a bag was left unattended.

Emergency services were in attendance on Bridge Street this morning (Friday, September 12).

Police and firefighters attended, with a cordon in place close to Spinningfields.

Greater Manchester Police said a bag was left in the area, with a cordon put in place as a precaution.

An assessment was made on the item this morning, before police deemed the area to be safe.

Images showed multiple fire engines at the scene, along with Greater Manchester Police officers.

A witness told the Manchester Evening News at least three fire engines were in attendance.

Bridge Street was closed off between Deansgate and Chapel Street, in Salford.

There was a large police presence and people were told a 'suspicious item' has been found, witnesses say.
