Manchester City and Liverpool FC wary of Arsenal advantage in Premier League title race

Manchester City might be chasing down a record fourth consecutive Premier League title, but if they are to make history they will have to see off the strong challenges of both Liverpool and Arsenal.

And although the Gunners are currently third in the title race, Mikel Arteta's side have given themselves a distinct advantage over their rivals in the pursuit of glory. The Gunners are a point behind current champions City and two behind league leaders Liverpool, with some huge matches still to come.

With little to choose between the three clubs, there will likely be lots of changes before May. However, if the Premier League title is decided by goal difference, then Arsenal already have a big advantage over Liverpool and City. At the end of 2023, the north London team was in fourth place with a decent, but not amazing, goal difference of 17, eight less than the Reds, who were at the top, and seven less than Pep Guardiola's side in third place. Keen to make their mark in the title race, Arsenal started the New Year with a bang.

Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium in their first Premier League game of 2024. Since then, they have won every one of their league matches, scoring 31 goals in seven games and only letting in three. The Gunners are the only team to win three consecutive Premier League away matches by five or more goals, after their victory at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United.

As things stand, Arsenal now have the best goal difference of the three sides with 45. Liverpool are next on 39 and City
