Serrano option emerges with decision near on Taylor foe

Katie Taylor's promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that new options have emerged for Katie Taylor’s fight in May at the 3Arena, with a rematch with Amanda Serrano possibly on the cards.

Taylor and Cameron were due to meet for a third time after a win each in two memorable fights at the 3Arena.

Hopes were high the trilogy could take place in Croke Park in a historic fight for female and Irish boxing.

However that has failed to materialise and a 25 May date is set for Taylor’s third bout in Dublin in 12 months.

Cameron was the obvious opponent, but posted on social media this week that talks had failed to reach an agreement.

She said: "I have agreed to a massive purse reduction to make this fight happen financially, as this is what I was told was the hold-up from the fight being agreed.

"The reason is because I wanted to create my own legacy. The trilogy not happening is down to Katie and her team and not me."

Speaking to Boxing News today, Hearn gave reasons why the third fight with Cameron will be delayed.

"Money. Timing. Other options that have appeared suddenly that might motivate Katie Taylor a little bit more. Fresh challenges. New offers. Lots of stuff.

"You’ll 100% see the third one. It’s just whether you see it in May or not."

The possibility of fighting Serrano has emerged after her planned homecoming bout with Nina Meinke last weekend was dramatically called off minutes before the opening bell as the Puerto Rican was deemed medically unfit to compete due to an eye injury.

Serrano, who lost to Katie Taylor on a split decision in a 2022 classic, had worn sunglasses to the pre-fight weigh-in as the injury troubled her, and she eventually did not get the clearance to compete.
