Manchester Airport Terminal One departures area 'evacuated' after incident

Passengers are reporting that Terminal 1 at Manchester Airport has been evacuated following an incident.

Pictures and video from the scene and shared on social media showed a fire engine and other emergency vehicles on the tarmac outside the terminal.

Others showed a firefighters inside the building.

Video being shared on social media show an announcement on the airport's public address system which said: "Attention please, an incident has arisen with necessitates the immediate evacuation of this area."

Manchester Airport has been approached for a comment.

A statement from Manchester Airport said: "The T1 departure lounge was briefly evacuated due to a fire alarm at one of the food outlets. Around 200 passengers had to be re-screened and flights were held for them.

"The incident was stood down at around 6.15pm."
