LIVE updates from Manchester Airport as busy weekend expected amid queuing chaos and staffing crisis

Saturday is set to be another busy day at Manchester Airport, as passengers continue to arrive hours before their flights in anticipation of huge queues.

Scenes of crowded check-in halls, lines snaking out of the terminals and abandoned baggage have become bleakly familiar in recent weeks - and more of this is expected today.

Our reporter Ramazani Mwamba will be heading there to report on the latest situation for passengers. He'll be looking at the queues, as well as speaking with passengers preparing to jet out of Manchester and those arriving back from holidays or work trips.

Civic leaders previously urged the airport management to 'get a grip or get out' as Andy Burnham warned the long queues at the airport could last for months into the summer.

Police and transport staff will be sent in to help the situation, the Greater Manchester Mayor revealed, while passengers will get real time online queuing information and the option to check-in their bags the night before their flight as part of a new action plan to solve a staffing crisis.

The airport has previously said: "As we continue to recover from the pandemic and passenger numbers grow, security queues may be longer than usual at times. If you're due to travel in the next few weeks, please arrive at the earliest time your airline allows. We apologise to our customers for the disruption".
