Erik ten Hag criticises Manchester United players and brands Man City 'lucky' for win vs Brentford

Erik ten Hag admitted Manchester United did not deserve to win in their fortuitous 1-1 draw with Brentford as he criticised the team for a lack of passion and desire.

Brentford peppered the United goal with 31 shots and hit the woodwork three times but went 1-0 down to Mason Mount's 96th-minute goal.

Kristoffer Ajer lashed in an equaliser three minutes later to secure a point for Thomas Frank's side, who have only won two of their past 18 games.

United have recorded four wins this season through goals in added time and seemed certain to claim a fifth but Ten Hag admitted they did not show enough passion and desire.

"We didn't deserve to win but if you're winning you have to take this," Ten Hag said. "I would say normally we are good in such circumstances if we score before time.

"We showed resilience all through the game but in points of aggressiveness Brentford were better, we should show more passion and desire in many moments in the game. But when you are winning you should bring it over the line.

"You can never compare such levels, performances (to United's win against Liverpool two weeks ago) but also when you don't play well you still have to win, we did it almost.

"That is my big disappointment - that we didn't bring it over the line. We didn't play well but there was spirit, there was fight, but not enough. It was enough to get the goal, 1-0, and before that we had a big chance for Rasmus Hojlund."
