Elderly man robbed at knifepoint in 'disturbing incident' at shopping precinct

Police have issued an appeal for information after an elderly man was robbed at knifepoint in a 'disturbing incident' at a shopping precinct in Stockport.

The victim was 'targeted' at the Romiley Precinct just after midnight on March 1, police said. He was held at knifepoint at a cash machine and had cash stolen from him.

A male has since been arrested. Police said the 'level of premeditation' in the robbery was 'concerning'.

Officers now want to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any footage which could help the investigation. In a post on the GMP Stockport Facebook page this morning (March 20), an officer wrote: "#Arrested – In the early hours of the 1st of March approximately 00:03hrs there was a knife point robbery at the cash point on Romiley Precinct where an elderly gentleman was targeted and cash stolen.

"Officers from the Neighbourhood Crime Team now have a male in custody. Police are appealing for any further witnesses or video evidence to support this investigation."

Neighbourhood Sergeant Jason Holmwood added: "This is clearly a disturbing incident and the level of premeditation by the offender is concerning. This does however appear to be an isolated incident and I am pleased we have an offender in custody.

"Please support this investigation by contacting the police on 101 if you have any information quoting crime number CRI/06JJ/0004571/24."
