Man v Food star Adam Richman heaps praise on family-run stall at Bury Market for ‘awesome’ dish

American TV star Adam Richman has heaped praise on another local foodie spot as he tours the country for his latest show.

As part of his current series, Adam Richman Eats Britain, the former Man v Food host has ventured up and down the country in a quest to taste test the very best when it comes to British food. Throughout the show, which airs on the Food Network but is also available to stream on Discovery+, he’s tried everything from Yorkshire puddings to Aberdeen Angus steaks.

In this week’s episode, Adam headed to Chorley in Lancashire to try some traditional hot pot before stopping in Manchester to get a taste of sausage rolls and potato waffles.

During his whistle-stop tour, Adam also paid a visit to Bury Market, which was recently named the best market in the north and the third best in the country. Exploring the 600-year-old market, situated by the Mill Gate Shopping Centre on Murray Road, Adam came across local favourite Chadwick’s - notorious for their original Bury black pudding.

"The family of Chadwick’s have been making black pudding since 1865,” co-owner Tony, who runs the stall with wife Mary, told Adam in the show. “We stuck to that recipe, kept it simple, kept it really small but have grown a reputation.”

Speaking to Adam, Tony said Mary, who was born Chadwick, didn’t entrust him with the secret family recipe until three years after they married. “She went in hospital to have our daughter and that’s when she realised I couldn’t make black puddings the next day unless she told me,” he explained. “It was a price to pay, Adam.”
