Man Utd: Ten Hag could 'try and go for' £106m star at Old Trafford

Manchester United making another move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is possible, believes Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Red Devils tried to sign the Dutchman during the summer, and Sheth is refusing to rule out the possibility of them returning for him in future transfer windows.

De Jong recently revealed that it was always his intention to remain at Barcelona.

“Chelsea and Man United interest? I already decided in May that I wanted to stay at Barcelona. I never changed this decision during the summer,” he said in a press conference (via MailOnline).

“I can’t give too much details away. But look… the club has its own ideas and I have my own ideas too and sometimes this clashes with each other. But at the end of the day things went okay.”

According to The Athletic, United had actually reached an agreement with Barcelona to sign the player. But in the end, they could not convince him to leave the Spotify Camp Nou for Old Trafford.

Sheth does not think the above necessarily means this is the end of things, though he can see De Jong’s stance remaining the same if United come knocking again.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Sky Sports reporter said: “I won’t rule out them, in the next couple of transfer windows, still trying to go in for someone like Frenkie de Jong.

“Or, you know, it might just be one of those things where it just might be an impossible deal to do because despite all of the financial issues and the deferred wages issues that he’s had with Barcelona, the fact of the matter is that he remained there and he’s happy to stay at Barcelona. So whether they can sort out whatever needs to be sorted out behind the scenes there and he remains there, that could still be an option for Frenkie de Jong.”
