PSG: Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting produced football's worst ever miss in 2019

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has embarked on one of the most unexpected career journeys of any male player over the past few years.

While, sure, Choupo-Moting has always been a solid finisher who chipped in with decent flurries of goals in German football, he never stood out as the type of player who would be lighting it up for some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

And that seemed especially unlikely when a miserable one-season stint at Stoke City that reaped just five Premier League goals culminated in relegation to the Championship.

However, in a transfer that turned more heads than we could possibly have counted, Choupo-Moting dodged the looming prospect of Rotherham United away with a stunning move to Paris Saint-Germain.

In the blink of an eye, the former Schalke striker went from playing with Charlie Adam, Saido Berahino and Joe Allen to lining up alongside Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Marco Verratti.

Now, as we all know, things became even more remarkable two years further down the line when Choupo-Moting maintained his place at the very top of European football with a Bayern Munich switch.

And while he continues to serve as a squad player for the Bavarians as we speak, we’re circling back to his time at the Parc des Princes for the purposes of today’s throwback.

Why? Well, because although Choupo-Moting proved to be a very valuable back-up striker with a respectable nine goals across his two seasons in France, he did also make headlines for all the wrong reasons along the way.
