Cristiano Ronaldo must have wondered what on earth he was watching as Manchester United imploded in their 4-0 defeat to Brentford.

Everyone knew that the Red Devils were in a tough spot, but even those predicting Erik ten Hag’s men to lose yet again could hardly have foreseen Brentford scoring four goals in the first 35 minutes.

Josh Dasilva got the party started when his speculative effort found its way through David de Gea, before some truly miserable passing out from the back by United allowed Mathias Jensen to bag a goal of his own.

Ben Mee then poached his first goal for the Bees as United were bullied from a corner, before Bryan Mbeumo hammered the final nail in the coffin by crowning a fabulous Brentford counterattack.

All in all, it made for one of United’s most humiliating defeats of the entire Premier League era and a result that must surely encourage Ronaldo to push even harder to leave the club before Deadline Day.

Reports have been abound that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner wants out of Old Trafford this summer in the absence of Champions League football, but a divorce between club and player has yet to be agreed.

With the likes of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich purportedly turning up their nose at the prospect of signing Ronaldo, it seems likely now that he could well remain at the club.

As such, he might have to get used to even more dire performances from the United players around him with the upcoming Liverpool clash suggesting that things might get worse before they get better.
