Man Utd now 'pushing' for 'special' £42m Brazilian at Old Trafford

Manchester United are ‘pushing’ to sign Matheus Cunha and key figures at Old Trafford feel the Atletico Madrid striker has ‘a lot of potential’, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The Red Devils have made a miserable start to the season, having suffered back-to-back defeats against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, and boss Erik ten Hag could bolster his squad ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline.

It appears that ten Hag, who was appointed as Manchester United’s new boss ahead of the new campaign, is on the cusp of completing his latest signing.

That is because, according to talkSPORT, the Red Devils are closing in on the acquisition of Atletico Madrid’s Cunha for £42million.

The La Liga side are not necessarily in a rush to sell the 23-year-old as his £65,000-per-week contract is not due to expire until the summer of 2026.

Crook understands that Manchester United are still in negotiations with Atletico Madrid and that a move to Old Trafford is not a foregone conclusion for Cunha.

However, the talkSPORT reporter is aware that the Red Devils are admirers of the centre forward and feels they are working towards getting the deal over the line.

Crook told GIVEMESPORT: “I was told on Monday night that there was still work to be done.

“But I think, certainly, they’re pushing for it. I think they see him as someone who has a lot of potential.”
