Southampton: Some fans ‘want change’ amid Hasenhuttl doubts at St Mary’s

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is feeling the heat from fans who ‘want change’ at St Mary’s, according to Tom Barclay of The Sun.

The Austrian has entered his fourth season in charge at St Mary’s but has just one point to his name after two games of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

Saturday afternoon saw the south-coast side come from behind to snatch a point in a 2-2 draw with Leeds at home, with new signing Joe Aribo and right-back Kyle Walker-Peters on target.

Nevertheless, it is a result that will have left plenty of the home supporters dissatisfied, especially given how much their opponents had struggled the season before.

The slow start should not come as too big a surprise when a report from MailOnline last week is taken into account.

It claims that many of Southampton’s first-team squad were surprised Hasenhuttl had not been sacked over the summer, with the former RB Leipzig boss growing further detached from the squad.

A number of players also apparently spoke to the Southampton hierarchy over concerns regarding their manager.

Barclay understands that plenty of supporters were shocked to see Hasenhuttl not lose his job before the start of this season.

The reporter also theorises that a number of fans likely feel that the 55-year-old has simply been there too long, as he enters his fourth year at the club.

Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: “I can understand why a lot of Southampton fans were surprised and perhaps a bit disappointed that he was definitely going to be there.
