Man Utd exit strategies could force Glazers into radical transfer overhaul

Manchester United have braced themselves for a number of departures this month - all for nothing - with several contracts expiring. Players such as Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic, who were all signed for big fees, have left for free.

It is no doubt a damaging blow to the squad depth at Old Trafford while Erik ten Hag has a huge rebuild job on his hands as he gets to grips with the Premier League. There will be little time for settling in for the Dutchman, who takes on his biggest job yet in football.

However, this might just be a blessing in disguise for United who now have the chance to start again. Having a clean slate is a rare opportunity in the Premier League and one that the Red Devils can take advantage of.

That is widely down to the fact that the funds at the club's disposal far trumps most in the world while the pull of United remains intact, despite their domestic wobbles. However, it will require something that has not been a usual policy at Old Trafford for some time - depending on the Glazers reaching into their pockets.

Over near enough the last decade, there have been protests against the American owners on Sir Matt Busby Way. Much of the disdain has been oriented around the lack of investment and the Glazers taking money out of the club.

Coupled with a serious decline in playing standards and the atmosphere around United has grown increasingly toxic while this year has accelerated it tenfold.
