Man Utd: £84m deal 'will probably happen' at Old Trafford

Manchester United will ‘probably’ secure the signing of Ajax winger Antony before September’s deadline, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Red Devils have been tracking the 22-year-old throughout the summer and finally appear to be closing in on his signature following a lengthy pursuit.

David Ornstein of The Athletic recently revealed that United had rekindled their interest in Antony with an €80 million (£67.6m) bid that was quickly rejected by the reigning Eredivisie champions.

And transfer guru Fabrizio Romano then stated that the Red Devils ‘have communicated’ to the Brazil international his representatives that they plan to submit a new official proposal in order to get the deal done as soon as possible.

Reliable reporter Santi Aouna has since provided another update on Antony’s situation, claiming that United are preparing a fresh offer worth €100m (£84m) for the attacker.

It’s believed that Ajax could be prepared to accept the terms, sanctioning the sale of another one of their star performers in what has been a turbulent summer for them.

Antony still has three years remaining on his contract at the Johan Cruijff ArenA but was left out of Ajax’s recent victory over Sparta Rotterdam due to the continued speculation surrounding his future.

United are believed to be targeting Antony, a right-back and a goalkeeper in what remains of the summer transfer window following an underwhelming start to 2022/23.

And Jones reckons that the 20-time English champions will be successful in their pursuit of the South American.
