Man Utd: £68m Ten Hag target 'wants to seal move' to Old Trafford

Manchester United have been boosted in their pursuit of Antony as the Ajax winger ‘wants’ to seal a big-money move to Old Trafford, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has already raided the Eredivisie champions since his appointment, having signed Lisandro Martinez for £56.7million last month, but he could add further reinforcements ahead of the September 1 deadline.

Manchester United have been frustrated in their attempts to recruit Antony as an offer worth close to £68million was pushed back by Ajax last week.

It comes after the Red Devils’ initial proposal – which totalled £51million – was rejected in July, but it appears they are not giving up in their pursuit.

That is because Manchester United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Antony and are set to rubber-stamp his arrival within the next week.

In a last-ditch effort to secure ten Hag’s target ahead of the transfer deadline, an improved offer is expected to be lodged despite the Red Devils’ reluctance to pay more than £68million.

Amid uncertainty over his future, Antony was left out of Ajax’s matchday squad for their Eredivisie clash with Sparta Rotterdam at the weekend.

Sheth understands that Antony is keen to join Manchester United ahead of the transfer window slamming shut at 11pm next Thursday.

The Sky Sports reporter is aware that the 22-year-old is keen to play under ten Hag again, having been selected by the Dutchman 79 times during their spell together in Amsterdam, but it is down to the Red Devils to meet Ajax’s demands.
