Man Utd: £40m star 'excited' to play under ten Hag at Old Trafford

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek will be ‘excited’ to play under incoming manager Erik ten Hag following loan spell with Everton, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

Ten Hag is set to take charge of the Red Devils following the conclusion of the current campaign, with the Ajax chief penning a three-year contract which has the option of being extended by another 12 months.

Manchester United may have forked out a fee which could rise to £40million in order to acquire van de Beek from Ajax more than 18 months ago, but his move to Old Trafford has not gone to plan so far.

Van de Beek has ended up making just 50 appearances for the Red Devils and failed to make a telling impact in the final third of the pitch, having contributed two goals and as many assists.

The fact that the creative midfielder has become an outcast at Manchester United has been emphasised by him only being offered 68 minutes of Premier League action over the course of eight substitute outings during the first half of the season.

A lack of opportunities resulted in the Red Devils sanctioning a loan switch to Everton on deadline day of the January transfer window, with the Toffees paying the entirety of his £100,000-per-week salary.

After a promising start to his Goodison Park stint, an injury resulted in him heading to the treatment table earlier this month, but he did return to contention for the 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Wednesday.
