Man Utd: Donny van de Beek's superb Ajax highlights under Ten Hag

Donny van de Beek must be rubbing his hands together at the prospect of working under Erik ten Hag again.

Having arrived at Old Trafford for £40 million in the summer of 2020, Van de Beek saw his career come to a grinding halt under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with constant spells on the bench.

It’s bonkers to think that a player who was signed as one of Europe’s most exciting young midfielders was swiftly limited to just four Premier League starts in the space of 18 months.

Besides, the situation was made all the more confounding by the fact that Van de Beek always looked impressive on the few occasions that he was actually given time on the pitch for United.

And as the Red Devils fell apart more and more in the latter months of Solskjaer’s tenure, it became increasingly baffling that Van de Beek remained stapled to the bench throughout it all.

All that led to the situation that we find ourselves in now: Van de Beek playing out on loan for a team in Everton who could well be playing Championship football next season.

However, there is finally light at the end of the tunnel for Van de Beek because he’s set to reunite with his former Ajax boss now that he’s been confirmed as Solskjaer’s permanent replacement.

The 25-year-old played the entirety of the 2018/19 and 2019/20 campaigns under Ten Hag’s stewardship, shining as Ajax famously made their way to the Champions League semi-finals.

As such, it can’t help feeling like the perfect storm at Old Trafford in which Van de Beek can finally make his impact on the Premier League, rediscovering the form that he displayed in Amsterdam.
