Crystal Palace: 165-game star 'definitely' wants Selhurst Park agreement

Crystal Palace defender Nathaniel Clyne ‘definitely would’ like a new contract in order to remain at his boyhood club, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

The 31-year-old has established himself as the Eagles’ first-choice right-back in recent weeks, but his existing deal is set to expire at the end of June.

Clyne rose through the academy at Palace before joining Southampton back in 2012 after four full seasons in the first-team squad.

A move to Premier League giants Liverpool followed three years later after becoming a crucial cog in an impressive Saints side, and his time on Merseyside got off to a promising start.

However, a serious back injury saw Clyne play just 183 minutes throughout 2017/18, allowing Trent Alexander-Arnold an opportunity to shine.

A six-month loan spell at Bournemouth showed some encouraging signs the following campaign, but he couldn’t work his way back into Jurgen Klopp’s thinking, especially after an ACL rupture kept him out for the entirety of 2019/20.

Palace offered Clyne a chance to revive his career 18 months ago, and after largely playing second fiddle to Joel Ward in that time, the 14-cap England international is finally making the right-back berth his own.

Clyne has now started the capital club’s last eight Premier League games in a row and indicated he would like to extend his stay in south London.

“I’m enjoying my time here at Crystal Palace,” he said in a recent interview. “My contract is up (at the end of the season), but I’m just concentrating on playing. When the end of the season comes, we’ll see what happens then.
