Man United will have seven players fighting for two positions if they seal Bryan Mbeumo transfer

Manchester United have wasted no time in trying to make their mark on this summer's transfer window.

After wrapping up the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves last Sunday, United are now attempting to secure the signature of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

After discovering the Cameroonian is keen on a move to Old Trafford, United tabled an opening offer for the 25-year-old in midweek, understood to be worth £55million, but it was rejected. However, they are understood to remain in talks with the Bees and a revised offer is expected.

Having signed Cunha for £62.5m, Brentford are expected to demand a similar fee for their talisman, who plundered 20 Premier League goals this season. He is an established top flight operator and United want to sign players who can come in and hit the ground running.

It is understood United have recruited Cunha, 26, to operate in the left-sided No.10 position, meaning Mbeumo is being targeted with the expectation of operating from the right-sided No.10 position. United also remain determined to sign a striker to operate down the middle.

Following Ruben Amorim's appointment last November, United immediately transitioned to a 3-4-2-1 system, meaning the two roles previously reserved for the wingers are now occupied by attacking-midfielders.

As a result of United's plan to cut their cloth this summer, the sales of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony, who are all natural wingers, have been prioritised. Fellow winger Alejandro Garnacho has also been informed he can leave.

The only winger who does have a future at United is Amad. He quickly got to grips with the responsibility of being a wing-back and flexed his muscles as a No.10, meaning he has a key part to play in Amorim's plans.
