Man United 'weighing up' stunning £50m transfer bid for next summer deal

Manchester United are considering a last-minute £50million summer bid for Brighton's Evan Ferguson, according to reports. The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the 19 year old Republic of Ireland forward amid reported fears that Chelsea may beat them to his signature.

This has put Ferguson firmly on United's radar before the current transfer window shuts at the end of this month, reports the Daily Star. Dan Ashworth, United's new Sporting Director, was in the same role at Brighton when Ferguson joined the South Coast club from Bohemians three years ago.

Despite an injury-interrupted 2023/24 season, the Seagulls' striker has quickly become one of the most sought-after young talents in the Premier League. This hasn't deterred United as they continue their quest to strengthen their attacking options for the upcoming season.

They've already signed Joshua Zirkee from Bologna for, but manager Erik ten Hag has conceded he may need time to adjust to the Premier League's increased pace and physicality. With United's Danish striker Rasmus Hojland sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained during the club's pre-season tour to the States, Ten Hag is left urgently needing proven striking power.

Hojlund isn't expected to return to first-team action until late September, with the 21 year-old also sidelined with new signing Leny Yoro. Brentford's £60m-rated England international Ivan Toney has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but at 28, he doesn't align with the club's new strategy of investing
