Man United supporters among worst affected for long-distance late kick-off times this season
The worst affected travelling fans for late kick-offs in the Premier League this season have been revealed. Manchester United and Newcastle United's away games have been a dream for coach companies but a nightmare for their supporters.
Late kick-offs can be really tough for fans who don't live near the stadium. Matches often finish just before the last train home - if there are any trains running at all. If not, it's a long journey home by coach or car, arriving back in the early hours of the morning. Some fans know these problems better than others, as two teams have had eight times more away evening kick-offs than others. So far this season, eight of United's away league and FA Cup games have started at 7pm or later.
This is the highest number for any Premier League club. But because Newcastle is the most northern club in the top flight, their fans are hit hardest by late kick-off times. A fan travelling to and from Newcastle for each of those eight matches would cover 2,898 miles. That's the same distance as from Newcastle city centre to Madinah in Saudi Arabia, Omsk in Siberia, or Dakar in Senegal.

Manchester United fans would travel 1,524 miles for their eight evening games - the same distance from Old Trafford to Marrakech in Morocco. Liverpool, on the other hand, have only had one FA Cup and league game start after 7pm this season. This was their two-nil victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Wednesday, December 6, a round trip of 206 miles from Anfield.
