Man United suffer double injury worry as Erik ten Hag provides update

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has issued an update on Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui after they were both replaced in the second half against Southampton.

United found themselves comfortably in control of proceedings going into the second half as goals from Matthijs de Ligt and Marcus Rashford made the Saints pay for missing a penalty on 30 minutes. With approximately 15 minutes remaining and before the hosts went down to ten men and United added a third, both Martinez and Mazraoui were replaced.

The defensive duo were both seen limping off the pitch leading to questions surrounding their fitness. In his post-match interview with beIN Sports, via United's official club website, Ten Hag confirmed it was too early to diagnose their condition.

However, he did reiterate that De Ligt is okay after being replaced late on too. "It looks like [cramp] yes," he explained when asked about the Dutchman.

"We had internationals, short in the season, some are short in the pre-season, some come from intercontinental flights so then you know you have a 12:30 game and you can struggle," he added on Martinez and Mazraoui. "Hopefully it’s nothing serious, we have to assess it today, or tomorrow and then we can see."

United fans will have their fingers crossed for no other injury issues this season. Already, the Reds are missing six players due to injury which is stretching Ten Hag's squad to its limits.

The club return to action on Tuesday night when they host League One club Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
