Man United’s ‘secret’ actions in aftermath of Leny Yoro's nightmare injury emerge

Manchester United's attempts to keep Leny Yoro's injury under wraps were thwarted when footage of the defender using crutches was shared widely on social media.

Yoro, who joined United last month in a £52.5million transfer from Lille, has had a difficult start at his new club having fractured his metatarsal during a pre-season friendly against Arsenal and has since undergone surgery.

Despite United's best efforts to keep the extent of Yoro's injury quiet ahead of the new season, a video of him on crutches at the team hotel following the Arsenal match was posted online. This confirmed fans' worst fears and forced the club to make a statement, reports the Mirror.

The incident highlights how highly United value Yoro and their desire to prevent the disappointing news from spreading before their Community Shield match against Manchester City this Saturday and the start of their Premier League campaign against Fulham next Friday.

The revealing footage of Yoro limping and wearing a protective boot compelled the club to provide more information about his injury, as well as that of Rasmus Hojlund, who also suffered a hamstring problem during the game against Arsenal.

United confirmed Yoro's successful surgery on Monday (August 5) in a statement that read: "Leny Yoro has today had a successful surgery on his foot injury. Yoro's rehabilitation starts now and we look forward to the 18-year-old returning to fitness in around three months."
